The following are standard notation used in most definitions of in-game sheet music.
- Notes inside parenthesis “( )”, are supposed to played in the high octave.
- Notes inside brackets "[ ] ", are intended to be played in the low octave. Note that this octave
- Notes inside squiggly brackets, “{ }”, are meant to be played as a chord (at the same time). Note that this is not possible on all instruments.
- Hyphens, “-“, and spaces, ” “, indicate short breaks in between notes.
- A series of three periods, “…”, indicates the ending of a line, or a long pause. (This is most important!)
- Notes with a star, “*”, are meant to be played very quickly.
